Welcome To
A Will and A Way Counseling came about to help the millions of Americans who are motivated to address their on-going emotional and mental health needs.
A Will and A Way Counseling is a local mental health outpatient provider. This small private practice is conveniently located, and Telehealth Services are offered.
We know that creating change and interrupting patterns is not always easy. Because your need for support can fluctuate, our services offered are tailored to your individual needs and goals. We believe having a trusted and neutral third party can allow you to “de-clutter” and evaluate what most needs your attention while promoting accountability, commitment, growth, and healing.
Meet Our Founder
Hi there! I’m Julie Donahue, a licensed professional counselor (LPCMH, LPC) in the states of Delaware and Pennsylvania, as well as, the Founder of A Will And A Way Counseling, LLC. I have been practicing for over 20 years with individuals and families. Witnessing and supporting them through their “work” has been one of the highest honors of my life.
My clients come to me for a variety of reasons, but most come here to gain a sense of what patterns are keeping them stuck. My role is to help foster a safe environment where you can begin to do “your work.” We explore what symptoms you are experiencing and look deeper at your relationships and environments you would like to change. We will work in a way that challenges loops and patterns in order to face what has been avoided so you can achieve greater satisfaction and fulfillment in your life. I use humor to help foster an environment that is safe and normalize our symptoms of stress.
Traumas can happen – big and small. Loss and suffering are a part of living. Learning how to move through it and transform it can be critical for managing our stress, emotions, relationships, goals and overall enjoyment in life.
I specialize in EMDR and IFS therapy to work more directly and deliberately with the whole brain instead of just our conscious minds. Through bi-lateral stimulation (like REM sleep) I help facilitate your brain to resolve under-processed traumatic memories or negative life experiences that could be triggering your presenting issues, stressors, and relationships. This is NOT a one-size fits all approach. I tailor therapeutic techniques to suit your personality and goals.
Meet Our Providers
Hello, I'm Jocelyn Spencer, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed to provide mental health counseling in the state of DE and commonwealth of PA. I completed my MSW at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and earned a BS from the University of Delaware. For over 14 years I’ve been helping clients find trauma symptom resolution and build self-identity and relational
skills. I have a particular interest in helping therapists, healthcare professionals and parents resolve emotional triggers that interfere with their ability to be the supportive, empathic role models and caregivers they strive to be. I also work with young adults navigating anxiety, self-esteem and relationship struggles.
I use an evidenced-based approach called Coherence Therapy to trace the origins of your symptoms and remove them at the roots so you can find relief sooner rather than later. Coherence Therapy can effectively help you to alleviate a broad range of concerns, including: anxiety, panic attacks, feelings of isolation and depression, effects of trauma and abuse, abandonment fears, perfectionism, indecision, avoidance, shame, self-blame, low self-esteem, intimacy avoidance, compulsive behaviors, and career and interpersonal relationship problems.
Within this approach I use a variety of techniques to help you identify areas of meaning, feeling, and emotional learning that are generating your symptoms. These are tailored to suit you, and include EMDR, IFS parts work, ego state exercises, compassionate inquiry, guided visualization and focused somatic awareness. Once these learnings are identified the meaning and the distress connected to them are transformed through a process of memory reconsolidation, which utilizes your brain’s ability to actively update information and create new meaning while a memory is briefly re-activated during a therapy session.
If I am the right therapist for you, we will begin building a collaborative relationship from the very first session that includes regular feedback about how we experience each other in our work together. Your outside patterns of relating will show up in our sessions, and my feedback can help you improve your other relationships in significant ways. If you’re having difficulty managing your current life circumstances and symptoms, I’d like to help you explore how my approach could lead to meaningful and lasting resolution. I look forward to meeting you!
